Once upon a time, there were four hospitality professionals who lived in restaurants (literally) around the world. They were very fortunate to find one another and worked tirelessly together for many years. One day they realised that they shared a dream; to create a place like no other, a place that encapsulated all that they had grown to love. It was a place that combined beautiful food with exceptional old school hospitality in a fun, family oriented environment where their customers were the centre of attention. They were Greg Feck, Kim Coronica, Stephanie Edgerton & David Wickwar. It also just so happened that they also all had a love affair with Venice, its history, vibrance, culture, romance and familial charm. It made sense that they take their combined 80 years experience in the industry to bring a little slice of Venice to Hawthorn. When entering 'The Bar', you will feel as though you have stepped out of some back street in Venice in some undefined era. You will enter through an old tobacco shopfront from Venice and be greeted by dark timbers, handblown Murano chandeliers, marble, aged brass, leather banquettes and an experienced bar tender. You will sip on traditional Venetian cocktails in crystal cut glassware or cocktails with Dave’s little twist that still give a nod to Venetian history. From there you may be escorted to your table in 'The Eatery', which will be like passing through a timezone. The Eatery will be more like Melbourne meets Venice, still elegant but much more light and casual. Once seated, the real experience begins. You will be made to feel welcome as you would in any Italian home. It might be a little more hustle and bustle at times, but you will always feel that taking care of you is our priority. The menu will feature quintessential Venetian classics along with pure and simple Italian food that you find in Venice and the surrounding Veneto region. The menu will feature many of our favourite dining experiences with a strong emphasis on homemade pasta. There will be about 6-7 pastas at any one time, all homemade, either by hand or using our advanced Italian extrusion machine. The pasta will be complemented by our cicchetti (small tastes) and a stunning little grill section with an emphasis on flavours from “the lagoon”.
